Friends in tweed enjoying G&D cocktails at a British country house in autumn — The Spirit of British Mischief

There’s something rather satisfying about a drink that doesn’t shout—but makes everyone look twice.

Autumn has a way of slowing us down. The days shorten, the nights lengthen, and suddenly the clink of ice in a glass feels less fitting than the weight of something stronger in hand. Muddy boots line the back door, tweed reappears from the wardrobe, and invitations drift in for weekends of pheasants, long lunches, and fireside scandal. This is the season when drinking properly really matters.

And drinking properly, of course, means G&D.

Autumn Rituals

October belongs to the countryside. Dawn starts with hip flasks smuggled into coat pockets, the sort of discreet sip that makes the cold tolerable. By evening, the fire has drawn everyone closer, dogs asleep under chairs, gossip rolling as freely as the port. G&D slips neatly into these rituals: a bottle that belongs as much on the kitchen table as it does in a cartridge bag. Mischief, bottled and ready.

How to Drink It

There are no rules, only cues. A chilled tumbler before supper. A dash poured straight into your hip flask before the drive. A mischievous spritz for the last lingering garden party of the year. And soon, the cartridge-can — the future of the field — will make its appearance.

Drink it as the Queen did: unapologetically.

The Social Side

Autumn is rarely quiet. The lunches stretch indecently long, the dinner tables louder, the weekend house parties just a little more reckless. This is the season when flirtations sharpen, reputations wobble, and the best stories are rarely repeated outside the room. G&D is not just a drink for these moments — it is the cue for them. To drink it is to signal that you understand how to behave badly beautifully.

An Invitation

The Founder’s Batch is nearly here. Limited, of course, because proper things always are. If you’ve ever needed an excuse to drink properly, autumn has provided it. Consider this your invitation.
